DENVER (KDVR) — John Torres, whose right leg was amputated because of diabetes complications, was only wearing pajama bottoms — his top half covered with two blankets — the night his sister and her friend found him shivering in a wheelchair on a curbside outside of Presbyterian/St. Luke's Medical Center.It was Nov. 29 and temperatures in Denver fell to single digits. The morning low on Nov. 30 was 4 degrees. Editor’s Note: The video above shows KXAN News Today’s top headlines for March 16, 2023.AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man was arrested and charged with intoxication assault with a vehicle causing serious bodily injury after a person died following a two-vehicle crash in New Braunfels early Thursday.The New Braunfels Police Department said at approximately 1:45 a.m. officers, along with the city’s fire department, responded to the 1000 block of FM 306 near Hunter Road for reports of a major crash with two pickup trucks.According to police, at the scene, officers found the two pickup trucks, which collided head-on.The driver of one of the vehicles was identified as 41-year-old Reva Garza, of New Braunfels, and according to police, Garza suffered critical injuries from the crash and was pronounced dead.NBPD said there were three people in the second vehicle.The two passengers were taken to trauma centers in the area, and police said both were in critical but stable condition. Gophers men’s basketball player Ta’Lon Cooper has entered the NCAA transfer portal and will also gauge interest from the NBA, according to 247sports.Head coach Ben Johnson said the program anticipated Cooper might only use one of his two years of eligibility at Minnesota. When Cooper committed to the U last spring, he initially said it might only be for one season.Minnesota is expected to seek transfer portal additions at point guard for next season. SALEM, Mo. -- Investigators found human remains during a search of private property near Salem, Missouri. The investigation into the find appears to be in the early stages.Crawford County Sheriffs were called to the small community of Cook Station Tuesday evening. The area is about a two-hour drive southwest of St. Louis. A few items of suspicious clothing were found on private property along Mound Ridge Road. A search warrant was granted and investigators found skeletal remains with the clothing Wednesday morning.The search area is large and in a very remote location. ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. - A third teenage boy has been arrested and charged in connection with the shooting death of a Lake St. Louis girl.Lydia Elking died on Saturday, Feb. 18. She was 17.According to Lt. Thomas Wilkison, a spokesman for the St. Charles Police Department, officers were called to St. Joseph’s Hospital just before 8:50 p.m. that evening.Two teenagers, Elking and a 17-year-old boy, arrived at the hospital after being shot at, Wilkison said. Elking suffered a gunshot wound to her chest, and the boy drove her to the hospital to report the shooting.
